Sudbury is well known for its association with art, the annual Garlanding of Thomas Gainsborough’s Statue on the Market Hill is on May 14 at 10.30am. The Mayor and Mark Bills will kick off the day by the statue and then all will be led by the Great Waldingfield Bush Band down to the Gainsborough’s House for the festive day! Free (…) Guided Tours on the hour from 11am until 3pm.
Art About Town is a prelude to Suffolk Open Studios and Sudbury will be displaying art by local artists in Winch & Blatch, Art & Framing Studio and The Angel between May 13 and 28. Another opportunity to find out more and pick up a guide for the open studios will be on May 29 when artists will be on the Market Hill.
St. Peter’s on the Market Hill always has a wide range of events including free lunchtime concerts every Tuesday between 12.30 and 1.30, where everyone is welcome to pop in. St Peter’s is an excellent venue for exhibitions and between May 7 and 14 they will be an exhibition of fine art prints by Members of the Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop.
Another annual event across Suffolk is the Walking Festival and there will be four guided walks in Sudbury; England’s Silk Capital and Duelling Dragons & Other Legends on May 27, Sudbury Commons & Orchids Walk on May 28 and In Gainsborough’s Footsteps on June 5.
Whether its music, film or drama there is always something to suit everyone at the Quay Theatre; Original New Yorker Lewis Schaffer, the comedians’ comedian will be performing on Friday May 6 at 8pm. Pay what you want at the end of the show! There will be a live streaming from the Royal Ballet of their new production, ‘Frankenstein’ on Wednesday May 18 at 7.15pm, tickets: £15.00 and between May 25 and 28, Sudbury Musicals Society will be putting on the vibrant musical comedy, ‘They’re playing our Song’.
