About See & Do Sudbury
Following the Portas Review in 2011, a national competition was opened asking local people and businesses to share their ideas for their town with the Government.
As a result of applying to become a Portas Town, Sudbury received £10,000 to put towards projects. Other funds were received through the local authority to support this. The Sudbury Town Team was established to be dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the quality, viability, heritage and night time economy of the town centre. It is an independent non-political voluntary group representing the interests of local businesses and is supported by Babergh District Council, Sudbury Town Council and Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.
In 2018 a community interest company, Sudbury CHOC CIC was established to take over from the Town Team under the direction of Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. The new Community Interest Company has responsibility for the See & Do Sudbury website and to encourage through the work of the Chamber of Commerce and others the businesses and community of Sudbury.
To date we have been working to help and support the town centre and businesses by:
Taste of Sudbury Food & Drink Festival.
This has become a very popular annual event which since June 2012 has grown to attract over 4500 visitors to the town centre not only on the day of the event but also visitors returning in the future, once they have seen what the town has to offer. More information can be found at www.tasteofsudbury.co.uk
Taste of Sudbury is now run in conjunction with Suffolk Market Events who continue to grow and expand this important event in Sudbury. See & Do Sudbury are pleased to encourage and support this ongoing event as an important feature and fixture of Sudbury.
Christmas ‘Shop Local’ Campaign.
Posters and leaflets have previously been issued promoting great reasons to shop local and highlighting that Sudbury has free parking. This was promoted in local newspapers, magazines, Suffolk Radio and on social media. Sudbury Town Council have promoted an annual competition for Best Christmas Window and See & Do Sudbury encourage the use of local retailers as a way of supporting local jobs and businesses and generally encouraging community at a time of year that is critical to businesses.
Supporting other groups.
We have helped organise and supported other events such as Record Store Day in 2014 which included the launch of a debut album by Fiona Bevan. Art About Town which promote local art by displaying it in businesses and retailers in town, in 2015 Sudbury had more art on show than any other town in Suffolk. The 30 year anniversary of the Town Twinning with Clermont including a French Window Display promoted in conjunction with the Sudbury Mercury. In 2014, we helped to up date the Sudbury Town Guide which is published by The Sudbury Society and the introduction of an events guide leaflet.
Website and Mobile App.
See and Do Sudbury is the place to go to find out where to shop, dine, stay, explore and it also has the latest news, events and offers.
The Town Team meet regularly and encourage ideas to be brought forward to support the businesses in the town centre and to make this a great place to visit and to relax and enjoy.
