Sudbury Silk Festival
On Saturday 7thSeptember we have our first ever Sudbury Silk Festival. Discover the long tradition of silk weaving in the town that stretches back to the 1780’s. Records show that by 1844 there were four silk manufacturers and 600 silk looms and it is still a thriving industry today with five silk weaving companies, Gainsborough Silk Weaving Company, The Humphries Weaving Company, Stephen Walters & Sons, David Walter Fabrics and Vanners Silks. Gainsborough Silk Weaving Company will have the showroom open and both Vanners Silk Weavers and Stephen Walters & Sons will have their silk mill shops opens from 10am to 4pm on the day of the festival.
