Born in 1912 in Wyoming, Jackson Pollock was influenced by Picasso among others, and his style of painting developed gradually over time, leading in the early 1940s to a completely abstract ‘all-over’ style which was given the name Abstract Exhibitionism. His individual, and not to say controversial, style will be the subject of the lecture at the start of the afternoon.

Lecturer: Ben Street MA

Ben Street is a freelance art historian, museum educator and writer based in London. He lectures and teaches on a wide range of different periods of art history for a variety of London institutions, including the National Gallery, Tate, Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Royal Academy and has written and presented programmes on art history for BBC Radio 4.   He is highly respected for his depth of knowledge, lucidity of expression,  and his passion for modern and contemporary art which is both contagious and enlightening.’

The one-hour lecture will be followed by a screening of the highly acclaimed film
